Who We Are

Adam Goode apprenticed with master builder Len Brackett of East Wind Inc. Len was rigorously trained as a temple carpenter in Kyoto and has spent three decades adapting the ancient Japanese Design aesthetic to Western needs. During his time at East Wind Adam learned some of the intricacies of Japanese timber framing while cultivating a personal interest in natural building.

When it came time to build their own home on the San Juan Ridge in Nevada County, Adam and his partner Kim, decided to "walk their talk." They committed to building a natural home. The house combines Japanese timber framing with light clay straw and cob walls set upon a large rock foundation. All of the clay and the poles for the project were harvested from the couple's fifteen acres. The sand and the rocks came from ten miles away. Kim's father provided the dimensional timbers, cut from bug killed pine and cedar.

It is a beautiful example of the natural building technique. During the construction process Adam obtained a California contractors license and is now committed to helping to make your natural building dreams a reality.
